As an environment friendly corrosion inhibitor, ZDM has good thermal stability and is nontoxic, pungent odorless and harmless to human and surroundings. Its inhibition mechanism: several polar absorption centers and nonpolar groups with large coverage area are introduced into the molecule, thus it can protect the metal equipment from corrosion by carbon dioxide through covering effect and raising the activation energy of corrosion reaction. It had good corrosion inhibition to hydrochloric acid, hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. The product can be neutralized to salt and exists stably in acid pickling medium, which will reduce the surface tension of the acid solution, ensuring its wettability. ZDM can crystallize sometimes if laid long, which is normal. It can still be used after heating.

ZDM is soluble in lower alcohols (ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol and etc.), chlorinated hydrocarbon, methylbenzene, mineral oil and etc. It is hardly soluble in water, but it can be dispersed in water freely. When used as acid pickling inhibitor, it should be added directly due to the hydrolysis tendency property of its free forms.
